Cloud Holding is NYC-based Bryce Hackford's fifth album, and first for Futura Resistenza. Seven sound sculptures are coaxed out of recorded improvisations by a group of musicians--Ka Baird, Shelley Burgon, Alice Cohen, Michael Hurder, Dominika Mazurova, Camilla Padgitt-Coles--and worked into formless figures that express an always drifting present. Guided by the Suzuki Nobara--a kind of electric koto with many traditional instrument sounds and unique pitch adjustment controls--and the lyric-less utterances of the human voice, Cloud Holding traces delicate outlines in a collaborative sound world that shines with mysterious, searching affinity.
Some old gems of Bens have resurfaced from the archives thanks to Danny digging through his crates.Ben grew out of the 1989 UK rave scene to dj, remix, produce and write for all sorts of artists from Prince to U2, djing around the world from Berlin to Buenos Aires. These are his own tunes made in the Matrix studio in London in 1990, a hive of activity and talent, Massive Attack in the next room making Blue Lines, Mark E Smith in another with The Fall, and Adrian Sherwood dubbing Tackhead in another!
If one could summarize the life of DJ Rambo in 4 tracks it would be with this EP, from dubbed out Euro Dance to Merengue - another mistake release on Poppers.Dance floor tool release by supposedly star-on-the-rise disc jockey – DJ Rambo. We have no idea who this person is, but one could guess this is one way to find out. Some rather heated opinions on the track list, but politics apart, A1 features a downtempo chugger yet unconventionally dubbed out version of what sounds like an early German Euro House production. A2 shifts gears with Italo tinted sexy house beats. On the flip side 90's Merengue sounds with ravey samples and dubbed out soap opera esque vocals. Lastly, a climatic commentator recording of what seems to be a football match between Brazil and Argentina.
Multi-instrumentalist Lars Bartkuhn returns to Rush Hour following the brilliant ‘Transcend’ 12'' and the two exquisite ‘Needs: Not Wants’ compilations.‘Melancholia’ is a mesmerizingly deep and dubbed-out workout with climbing basslines, distant vocal chants and jazzy percussion. Flip side ‘Icarus Ascending’ is a thick disco-bass invested house floor burner crafed to uplift all spirits to higher levels."
A dope set of jazz fusion boogie vibes by Kaidi Tatham!
