Back in 2021, when Volodymyr Gnatenko agreed to work on his debut album, none of us could have predicted it would be released, post-pandemic, against the backdrop of war. At the time, the 23-year-old producer from Lutsk was riding high on a string of well-received 12s for labels such as Where We Met and Animals On Psychedelics, besides local Ukraine labels such as LSS557 and Rhythm Buro. He was, between covid closures, playing live at Kyiv clubs such as Closer and Kureni, looking to tour in Europe, and spending every spare second making music.How things change. When missiles began to rain on Kyiv, Gnatenko, alongside a few friends from Closer, hid in his studio. For a while, the bombings did not stop. But for the producer, neither did the music-making. Choosing to stay in the city, he continues to make beats, managing only to mix down between bombing raids. He changed his first name to match that of his president, ditching the previous spelling of his name because it was the same as the aggressor, “[the same as] my worst enemy, I am ashamed and disgusted that I started my career with it”. The album speaks of softer, easier times. A combination of rich ambience, and laidback breaks alongside loose progressive and trance-fused dancefloor tracks, this debut brings together all the strands that Gnatenko plays with. The process, he says, was exhausting and long. Yet the results are lighter, fresher. Maybe because, he says, “it is dedicated to my future wife. All the tracks are my words of love for her". Deeply hypnotic and freely moving between ideas, it feels like it was made a lifetime ago, not a matter of months. Now, it resonates with a new defiance. It is a debut with an extra layer of meaning.

Encompassing all his influences from Jazz, R&B to Techno and Ambient these lush tracks with a feel that no one else expresses quite like Mr. Fingers. Right from the start with "Around the Sun" the ten track album pulls you in with these lush produced tracks and effortlessly captivates you with the always infectious grooves and perfectly spaced arrangements. No need to further elaborate... This is Larry Heard at his finest.

You can’t keep a good thing down: 99 marks the triumphant and long overdue return of Matthew Edwards’ Rekid project. More than just Radio Slave records slowed down, his alter ego preferably ploughs the field between ambient excursions, downtempo hypnotism, sample sculptures and the general space in between raves.Since its first appearance with the Lost Star EP for Classic in 2004 and the still breathtaking follow up Made In Menorca opus on Soul Jazz Records, Edwards firmly established himself as a producer of many, if not all trades. Thought of, produced and conceived during the first lockdown of 2020, 99 is conceptual (with the tempo firmly set at that tempo), concise (34 minutes and 34 seconds long) and content with exploring the possibilities of limitation (one track a day, live takes, no editing).Without departing the original Rekid ethos of glacial music, it presents a modernized and contemporary version of IDM tropes, chill out topics and a capturing sound of mesmerizing materiality.

Ce pont, A Strange Wedding l'imagine en plan-séquence cyberpunk aérien tandis qu'Odopt le sculpte en angles bruts. Osez pénétrer dans ce labyrinthe plus grand qu'il n'y paraît, il se pourrait que vous souhaitiez y rester davantage que ce que vous croyez.Featured on the second various out on Kump, Maahrt is back among us. This seventh record is a two-faced coin pierced by a single disturbance. When « Gault » pummels big beat remains against an industrial frame, « Clag » vibrates from breaks resonating of voices and echoes. One hits, the other flees, both extend in twin yet singular artifacts. The track « Noma » comes at last as an attempt to bind both sides in this narrow place in between two dark spaces. A Strange Wedding re-imagines this bridge as an aerial cyberpunk movie sequence whereas Odopt sharpens its angles. Dare to penetrate this labyrinth bigger than it seems, you might wish to stay there longer than you think.

The profusely productive Lerosa returns to Lunar Disko with another excellent EP, taking us on another jaunt through the interstellar synth world of Leo Rosa. A 5 track EP which also features another distinguished remix from fellow Roman, Marco Passarani.
