Jazz re:freshed is proud to present the Sophmore album from saxophonist Marcus Joseph.

The album moves between genres from spiritual jazz to hip-hop and features contemporary UK JAZZ luminaries such as Sheila Maurice-Grey (Kokoroko), Nathaniel Cross (Moses Boyd Exodus), Tony Kofi, Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective), Theon Cross (Sons of Kemet), and is produced by Eddie Nache Hick (Sons of Kemet).

Hailing from Leicester and of Afro-Caribbean descent, Joseph started playing clarinet at the age of seven. He originally gained airplay on BBC1Xtra as a hip-hop DJ and MC. He was subsequently inspired to pick up the saxophone and study jazz at universities in Leeds, London and New Orleans. Never one to be bound by location, he spent a period of time living in Barcelona.

He has since played at landmark events such as Love Supreme and We Out Here.

Marcus has supported the likes of Oscar Jerome, Blue Lab Beats as well as The Blackbyrds and has also worked with such luminaries as Dennis Rollins, Arun Ghosh, Dave O'Higgins, Abram Wilson, Gary Crosby and Eska.

His work has been supported by Tom Robinson (6Music) and, his new album released on Jazz re:freshed, is a warm fusion of jazz, reggae, hip-hop and contemporary music.

More in the new series from Jazzman featuring the lowest of the lowball schlock n' roll 45s never known to exist! After many years in hiding, notoriously shady Super Spiv of the record world Greasy Mike has finally opened up his vinyl dungeon, and we were first to raid it! We have left no box untouched, no crate unrummaged, no pile unpilfered! Just the greasiest and grimiest, the most shocking and sordid 45s have made it onto our selections.
Super obscure New York Latin Jazz produced by Eddie Drennon who had a massive Disco hit in the early 1970's with "Let's do the Latin Hustle". Drennon was also a well known arranger and producer on the underground Latin Circuit and produced this way out, leftfield and very different to the typical "Salsa" style release current at that time. Some very jazz oriented playing on top of the "El Barrio" Vox Pop sounds of the streets and underlaid with some funky and fiery latin percussion. "Suite Guaracha" was picked up on by the Ursula 1000 & Gamm Nu-Jazz crew in the 2000's and was played all over the alternative club circuit but has still managed to stay under the radar since then and is now a staple of the Worldwide Sound appearing on DJ Playlists in the hippest spots from Tokyo to Hamburg, New York to Barcelona. Very different from the usual run of the mill late 70's Fania outings which might be a clue as to it's somewhat unique sound stylings. Funky, gritty, jazzy and spooky backing vocals. It's Strictly Jazz Room!
