PE013 - CA - 2020Tiny Planet is back in business, Volume 3 returning to the geographical roots of Planet Euphorique. Four genre expansive tracks, hot-off-the-press Canadian content bringing all new artists to the PE sphere. The record is split from East to West, Montreal to Vancouver, providing an array of audio delights primed for diverse dance experiences. Starting in Montreal, the A side hosts a deep, sensual dripping opener, “Gutted Honey Dew Project” by duo Mutually Feeling. Steady, rolling breakbeats slung behind melt-in-your-mouth vocals of silk, the blooming bassline forming a modern day classique. The flirtatious essence carries to the A2 with Pascale’s “Fly Zone”, bubbling into an irresistible, bouncy analog jammer. Lights flashing; surging stabs of colourful harmony. A sleek, smooth and playful track ordering you to la discotheque stat! Heading West to the B side, the mood swing is sinisterly jacking in Vancouver. Sludge laden “Are You Done Yet” by Overland showcases a hot and distorted acid hypnosis, weaving in and around a driving repetition of drum-work, deceptively low tempo for the momentous percussive progression and evolving sonic squelch. Sigsaly busting in to finish it off with the fully fledged hammering techno hit you needed, “Carve” B2-big room, XL rhythmical head-rush. Stomp to the beat!
Two years have passed since their previous Inflict LP and we don’t really know how what recently happened impacted on the band’s mastermind Michael but what’s sure is that Veil Of Light are now a fully grown-up band.Landslide is their fifth full-length (and their third on Avant!) and it’s definitely their most elaborated album.Ten new songs, rather than the usual eight, with a perfect balance of Coldwave-inspired intimate atmosphere and synthpop catchy melodies. Musically speaking it’s still clear where the Swiss duo draws their influences from, right in between New Order’s moodiness and The Klinik trying one softer, less brutal approach to their Electro. But a new sense of privacy is reflected all through these new tracks, enhanced by lyrics now more personal than ever. The Prayer Wheel is a page torn out of a private diary, Love And Money is a mechanical mantra for a no-way-out situation; Suburban War is a confession of defeat whispered at night, No Return is the last dance before reaching the point of.This is the kind of record that takes its time, and takes its toll, we just need to sit down and listen because there’s much to discover.
Little Italy have a horn section that gives them that chromatic vivacity, a typically mutant funk guitar groove, two fatal and dazed female voices who speak many languages (English, French, Italian) reciting collages of cryptic texts evoking modernity through no-sense and cultured quotations; a funk thrill in the basslines and drums solutions that give a nod to the sly disco beat of a specific easy listening, elegant and refined Italo sound. A super-sophisticated sound with the right dose of fusion, proper New Wave, which in the more New-Yorker passages recalls the volcanic and sweaty sound of the contemporary and fellow citizens Bisca, another out-of-the-box band member. The warm Mediterranean wind blowing on some tracks certifies their origin and the exoticism leads Little Italy to drink from that oasis of escape. After all, the escape from a world that does not contemplate banality is the synthesis of the 1980s thought.
A compilation of essential music created to make your nights and days fearless, from house to techno, trough ambient and experimental. A genuine selection of six tracks that speak the same language in different moods. Make your choice: fear or music!
The Swiss DJ and producer Walid reaches new heights with his highly anticipated proto-techno project "Child of the Waves", taking his place in the great Swiss electronic tradition - peopled by the likes of Carlos Peron, Boris Blank and Grauzone, to name just a few.
