Symbol by Susumu Yokota on Lo Recordings.

The late, great Susumu Yokota made many terrific records, though few are quite as revered as 2004 set Symbol, which up until last year had only ever been available on CD. It got a limited vinyl pressing in Japan in late 2021 and is now available worldwide thanks to this vinyl pressing from Lo Recordings.

The album itself is simply stunning: a perfectly pitched fusion of neo-classical orchestration, melancholic piano motifs, ambient textures, sampled vocal refrains and beats that variously touch on instrumental hip-hop, IDM and soft-focus Latin grooves.

Atmospheric, evocative, melodic and impeccably produced, it remains Yokota's most musically expansive and cinematic release. It's the sort of set that everyone needs in their life, whether or not they're a confirmed admirer of the Japanese artist's other work.

Fallen Gods by Rapoon‘Fallen Gods’ is the third studio album by Rapoon aka Robin Storey, formerly of :zoviet*france:. Originally released in 1994, ‘Fallen Gods’ emerged amid a prolific early period for the Rapoon project, following in the wake of debut album ‘Dream Circle’ – originally released in 1992 – and second outing ‘Raising Earthly Spirits’, released a year later. Building on the haunting industrial ethers of ‘Dream Circle’ and the esoteric, rhythmic drone of ‘Raising Earthly Spirits’, ‘Fallen Gods’ consolidates many of the sounds and disciplines that had shaped Storey’s work up to this point, while indicating a newfound, concerted focus on classical Indian instrumentation. The results represent a synthesis of myriad ideas, rooted in the duality between modernity and mysticism.
First vinyl edition of these homemade electronic tracks, recorded in a primitive bedroom studio between 1993 and 1994 by Mahk Rumbae, a British born fan of synths and drum machines. A surprising crossover, as it alternates between the soft balearic sound heat and the urban indu-electro rigour.
Splendid re-issue of this sought after Dutch ambient techno classic from the early 90's. Produced by the same team behind the It's Thinking project: Gerd, Dirk & Mark. Originally released through Deviate from Utrecht. Now manufactured by the self titled Marvo Genetic imprint, a one-off subsidiary to Gerd's own Frame Of Mind. Including a previously unreleased track called The Reprise found on the original session tapes. Tip!
