After 4 years of interviews with strangers around Montreal, Elizabeth found herself with countless stories, making up a "people's history" of the city she loves so much - which she then wove into a series of 11 original songs to make up her first bilingual album: MONTRÉAL.Soulful, groovy, with a touch of electronica, the show is accompanied by a series of videos - a stylized journey of the places and people who inspired each song.MONTRÉAL is Elizabeth's most ambitious project to date, reaffirming her originality as an artist.creditsPersonnel:Vocals - Elizabeth ShepherdKeyboards / piano / samples / percussion (track 5) - Elizabeth ShepherdGuitar - Francois JalbertBass - Remi-Jean LeBlancDrums - Mark Nelson (tracks 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10), Rich Irwin (tracks 3, 4, 6,11)Trumpet - Jacques Kuba-Seguin (tracks 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10), Andy King (track 4, 9)Produced by Elizabeth ShepherdAll songs written, composed and arranged by Elizabeth ShepherdAll instrumental tracks recorded by Padraig Buttner-Schneirer at Studio 451, except tracks 3 & 4 recorded by James Benjamin at Breakglass Studio, and track 9 recorded by Howard Bilerman at Hotel2tango StudioAll vocal tracks recorded by John MacLean World Records Studio except track 3, recorded by James Benjamin at Breakglass StudioMixed by John MacLean at World Records StudioMastered by David Travers-Smith at Found SoundCover artwork by Gene PendonAlbum design by Johan Hultqvist (Pinwheel Music)Photography by Richmond Lam
Afro-Finnish band Maajo return with their third album, "Water of Life," a fluid celebration of various influences. Supported by two preceding singles, "Better Days" and "Unelmissani," the album is the group's first release with the Brooklyn, NY-based tastemaker label Wonderwheel Recordings. Maajo's signature Afro-Balearic sound meets late eighties new age and fusion, with touches of modern soul. The addition of two band members, Waina and Gilbert K, as well as featuring artists Issiaka Dembele and Ismaila Sané, has rooted the album's stories in a diverse range of backgrounds, featuring vocals in no less than six different languages."Water of Life" is out on Wonderwheel Recordings October 14th, 2022, both digitally and as an exclusive, limited-run 2xLP.
A Family Affair by IVAN MAKVELAs the brains and the muscle behind The Sleepers Recordz, Ivan Makvel stays busy, having kept a steady stream of street dance-oriented releases flowing into the ears of modern funk connoisseurs internationally. Yet, the majority of these releases have come from other artists, with Makvel's own music taking a back seat while he forged a unique lane for his label. No longer, as he brings you his first full-length in years - A Family Affair.
A raw project by highly skilled musicians that explore modern grooves and brain-melting jazz chops. Led by Georgian producer Mishulino, who was also involved with the 2021 broken beat future-classic Turbulance project with Kid Sublime. On keys is former child prodigy Bjazz11, who already played with legends like Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke from an early age. On drums is Mike Mitchell aka Blaque Dynamite, another young legend who performed with Kamasi Washington, Mononeon, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, and many others. This record shows these topnotch players jamming it out with full freedom to express
