Deep Space Network was a joint project by David Moufang (Move D) & Jonas Grossman and it explored electronic music that wonderfully combined ambient, chill out themes, sci-f techno and idm. Originally released on David Moufang's Source Records and distributed by Instinct Records in America a year after. Now, 27 years later, finally released on vinyl for the very first time.
The idea for Suemori's new alias arose (also known as Hoshina Anniversary) in conversation with Osàre! Editions label boss, Elena Colombi. An inheritance from his grandfather, the name sets the tone of the album that synthesises traditional Japanese instruments into an electronic format. Dub and drone’s eerie resonance collides with staccato electro and fizzling acid on ‘Yakkosan.’ Driven by a meditative beat, flutes and choral voices glide through 'Senpai Kouhai' while ‘Hankumoi’ shudders with lucid synth. The cultural iconography of Japan emerges from this dark, textual landscape, haunted both by the ghosts of the past and spectral sound of the future.
The Connection Machine is Natasja Hagemeier and Jeroen Brandjes. The vinyl version of the album has been re-mastered and features nine tracks from the CD-only original release from 2004.The label Down Low Music is a vital US resource for deeply personal electronic music that works both in bedrooms and DJ booths. It’s a label that put out celebrated albums and EPs by the likes of Convextion, E.R.P and Dan Curtin, so played a key role during its first lifetime. Ten years after their last release they return with a double vinyl version of the previously CD-only Painless album by The Connection Machine. It is an album made up of material made in the nineties that never saw the light of day and is full of achingly deep moods, dreamy acid house, down tempo electronics, ambient, and Detroit techno, all of which make it a lost classic from the Dutch techno scene. This is a vital reissue that not only re-introduces this forgotten classic to a whole new audience, but also the Down Low Music label itself.
PE013 - CA - 2020Tiny Planet is back in business, Volume 3 returning to the geographical roots of Planet Euphorique. Four genre expansive tracks, hot-off-the-press Canadian content bringing all new artists to the PE sphere. The record is split from East to West, Montreal to Vancouver, providing an array of audio delights primed for diverse dance experiences. Starting in Montreal, the A side hosts a deep, sensual dripping opener, “Gutted Honey Dew Project” by duo Mutually Feeling. Steady, rolling breakbeats slung behind melt-in-your-mouth vocals of silk, the blooming bassline forming a modern day classique. The flirtatious essence carries to the A2 with Pascale’s “Fly Zone”, bubbling into an irresistible, bouncy analog jammer. Lights flashing; surging stabs of colourful harmony. A sleek, smooth and playful track ordering you to la discotheque stat! Heading West to the B side, the mood swing is sinisterly jacking in Vancouver. Sludge laden “Are You Done Yet” by Overland showcases a hot and distorted acid hypnosis, weaving in and around a driving repetition of drum-work, deceptively low tempo for the momentous percussive progression and evolving sonic squelch. Sigsaly busting in to finish it off with the fully fledged hammering techno hit you needed, “Carve” B2-big room, XL rhythmical head-rush. Stomp to the beat!
It’s been twenty years since West London techno producer and Continual Records co-founder Tommy Gillard released his last solo record. He’s now back with a bang - and a pretty scary one at that. After spending large parts of the last decade in the studio with fellow UK techno veteran Oliver Ho (better known nowadays as Broken English Club) releasing work as Zov Zov on Ho’s Death & Leisure and the ever reliable Berceuse Heroique, Gillard now joins Interstellar Funk’s Artificial Dance roster as Curved Needle.Opening with the ominous and icey cold title track, Gillard makes it clear straight away he’s not here to make any new friends - he’s out for blood with six bone-rattling slo-mo post-electronic body music exercitions of the bleakest kind. Did anyone say ‘horrorwave’?An aggressive half-speed drum & bass-hoover (think Ed Rush & Optical anno 1997 sawn in half) underlays the dystopic yet blatantly brilliant electro nightmare that is ‘Change-Power’, before things get even more sinister on ‘Sworn in Blood’ and ‘The Blind Leading the Blind’.This may be a tad too slow and low to serve as your average dancefloor fodder, but it’s perfect torture room material. Now excuse me while I go mop up some blood. (RO)
Grim Headlights features the latest acid mayhem by Peel MD member and Nerike Primate labelhead A. Stantz. Utterly advanced bassline tools for the dark techno clubs. All tracks recorded deep in the rural area of Sweden.
