To kick off his new label and musical output - Aweh Music, Esa shares with us two exclusive tracks from his most recent soundtrack LP for The Invisible Hand podcast. This limited 7" features a modern street soul track and a collaboration with the legacy duo from the early 1990s, Doval and Robert Roper of Special Touch, which you might be familiar with from their cult classic the Garden of Life LP. On the flip side, Esa collaborates with his sister Tasneem based in Cape Town, for the very first time. They present a musical journey that takes influence from Soul with Balearic tones and Afro-Beat, all brought together nicely by the talented Franck Biyong on organ, guitar, and paying homage to Fela with his introductory vocals & lyrics. Esa recorded these tracks during the pandemic, with many of the studio sessions done remotely. It also features some rising talents based in London - Ayo Salawu on Drums, Raquel Martins on Guitar, Amane Suganami on Synths and Manu Idra on percussion. All tracks were written, produced and arranged by Esa.
Strangelove’s latest release turns left somewhere near the edge of the Atlantic, with Electricidade Estética” documenting a vibrant window into the musical landscape of 1980’s counter-culture Portugal. Compiling early un-issued works, DWART’s organic Ash-Ra Balearics meld with spikey Iberian electronics, coalescing around the floating beauty of ‘Mate’, reissued for the first time on vinyl.
Man Made Hill/ Olaf split 7" by Man Made Hill/OlafPlanet Ontario traveller, Man Made Hill, meets Jeremy Greenspan at the controls for this sonic snack which weds signature sounds from the king of sleaze with a new sheen to his slick. Atomized melodies swirl atop boomy bass drops as the crusty crooner bellows & whispers his unique utterances of unbridled love & lust. A woozy stepper that must be heard to be comprehended.Mysterious newcomer, Olaf, is coming in hot & heady with this emotionally dense banger that forgoes clarity for an unhinged catharsis. Swimming through synthy miasma, Olaf’s impassioned vocals dive deep into raw feelings before coming up for air. A chugging, sluggish house beat pulls us along as this fresh-faced contender flexes what she’s got & leaves us wondering & wanting.
JD Twitch loves Cumbia. The more out there it is the better and Crees Que Soy Sexy is pretty far out. It had been a secret track in his DJ sets, that has caused people to freak out, for many, many years.Ten years ago he did an edit of it but always felt he could have made it better; it is not often one gets second chances, but here is a second chance to do it again! Everyone knows the Rod Stewart version of this song but of course Jorge Ben came up with that melody originally and Rod then used it, only for it to return to South America with this cover version. It feels like the true ownership of this song belongs to South America and we in Europe are just borrowing it.
