Bella Vista was a one off project from Michel Esteban, founder of seminal New York Disco/Electro/New Wave imprint ZE Records. Originally released in 1982 ‘Mister Wong’ is a Pop oddity that sits between French Synth Pop and Leftfield Disco. The 12” includes the sought after Disco Dub version that lets the bassline work its magic alongside some heavy dub delays, on the flip Jura Soundsystem provide an extended version with added live percussion.
On 12” for the first time, Cloud’s ‘Visions’ featuring four versions mixed by Sean P from the original 1983 multi-track recording.Standing somewhere between the sounds of early 80s disco club land, electro-funk and synth-pop, the ‘Visions’ recording session has remained silently spooled amongst the tape archives of producer Alan Osbourne since it’s first mix-down. Previously released in 1983, a stripped-down cut of the recording appeared on the segued track compilation Designed For Dancing Volume One (Design Communications) blended with the tail end of Toney Lee’s ‘Love So Deep’.Recorded two-months before Cloud’s final single ’Steppin' Out’, the band had a new line-up and a new sound; Shelley Law on lead vocals, Mark Mansfield on bass, Mitch Keene on guitar and Mike Allen on keyboards, with Alan Bateman on sax. and Cloud’s original drummer Paul Holmes.By this time, a younger underground scene had emerged, and electro-funk was at the forefront. David Joseph’s ‘You Can’t Hide Love’ topped the disco charts and popular b-boy anthems ‘Hip Hop Be Bop’ by Man Parrish and ’Jam On Revenge’ by Nucleus got UK releases. Along with the changing sound of brit-funk related bands and artist aspirations to produce popular records, the Mansfield and Law writing team were a good combination for Cloud. The result was a more contemporary 'sound of Swindon' that kept it's jazz funk roots under the musical direction of Osbourne.
On behalf of re:discovery records, it is with great excitement that we announce the release of 'Ambient7 - Excepts from 1995-2000' compilation. Ambient7 was a threesome out of Japan that included Chica Asamoto, Masayuki Momo and Shuichi Ikebuchi. Chica Asamoto, an accomplished saxophone player while Masayuki Momo and Shuichi Ikebuchi are both talented synthesizer players and producers in their own right. Together, they released 3 full albums during a 6 year span from 1995-2000. Ambient7's sound was a blend of chill-out styles including ambient, techno, balearic house and everything inbetween. A unique and heartfelt far east version of chill-out music going on at the time like what you would have heard on Waveform Records, Silent, Quango and many beloved other labels. While it was hard to pick out just one EP's worth of tracks from 3 full length cd's, we felt these that were chosen is a great collection and examples to fit the vinyl medium.
Millennial dream boy Gen-Y and his twisted takes on everything! With his roots in Iran, hailing from Berlin he goes deep in, mixing up styles like it's nothing. On this follow-up Ep to the critically acclaimed Saturn Flow Ep from 2021, he keeps it funky and upbeat! On the opener Dreamboy, he collabs with Estonian singer Maryn E. Coote and takes the dancers on a smooth ride with a touch of 80's proto-house, electronic funk sound and vocals from Maryn's original version. River of Light and Time Of Death are proper flowing electro-funkers while Type 0.7 and Rari Jack ft. DJ Ebhardy are proper jackin Dj favorites! Closer Kirby Step takes the term 'funky acid' to another level. When you make tunes that are this cool there is no need to stick to one style... just enjoy what the universe transmits to the ether and vibe along!
