At the turn of the 90s, Philippe Cohen Solal, then musical director for Virgin, becomes one of the first music supervisor in France and works on film scores by Arnaud Desplechin, Nikita Mikhalkov, Lars von Trier, Bertrand Tavernier or Kieslowski, then later composes for Tonie Marshall, Christian Vincent and Didier Le Pêcheur. He meets the very young composer and arranger Christophe Chassol with whom he will sign early 2000 soundtracks, during these sessions they create together the soundtrack of an imaginary film where music would be our spiritual food.The majority of themes are composed by Philippe with his musical partner at the time Christoph H. Mueller before they formed the Gotan Project. Unveiled here for the first time, this album pays tribute to the art of soundtracks, inspired by the world of sophisticated arrangements by Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin and so many others. Add a touch of folk jazz with the singers Nivo and Gabriela Arnon and the voice of the brilliant Welshman, leader of Scritti Politti, Green Gartside.

Estonia native Misha Panfilov has been making waves in the vibrant rare groove scene, solidifying his presence with a string of personalized albums. Renowned for his crafted and funk-infused singles on the FNR label out of Detroit, it was albums like the laid-back “Days As Echoes” and the jazz-inflected “Momentum” that firmly placed him on the map, leading to coveted gigs in Hamburg, Copenhagen and Stockholm.Recognizing his burgeoning talent, Jazzaggression approached Misha to collaborate on an album before the opportunity slipped away. The decision was clear: a library album for the esteemed ‘New Library Series,’ a realm Misha is intimately familiar with, having drawn inspiration from his fellow library music composers for years.The latest offering from Misha Panfilov, unveils a collection of 14 entrancing tracks that beautifully highlight his mastery with his distinct melodic finesse. This array of tracks traverses a broad spectrum of rhythmic diversity, spanning from infectious head-nodding beats to thoughtfully minimalistic themes, often with vintage instrumentation in collaboration with his fellow musicians. From the punchy « Sun Strike » to the hypnotizing « Optophobia », auditors will be able to bounce and dance to « Velvet bullet », « Whirling Dervish » and « Baroque Buffoon ».Rongetz acts as caster in chief and brings in some of the most promising talents of the New York jazz scene. Simon Moullier on Vibes is already recognized by Herbie Hancock and Quincy jones as one of the best musician of his generation, same goes for Jonathan Barber (Drums) Tivon Pennicott (Tenor Sax) and Alexander Claffy on Acoustic Bass. Also featuring on the album is a Nuyorican gem that Rongetz discovered in Manhattan few years ago, Carlos Jimenez (Flute). Keita Oggawa (Percussion) from Snarky Puppy has also joined the team on two tracks.Elegant and powerful, as demonstrated by the breath taking opening piece « Sun Strike », the Velvet Bullet will be out February 19th 2021 and is surely not to be dodged.
